I've read books by Ron Darling and Davey Johnson and they don't say anything about him. It just seems like he was overlooked and diminished but his numbers speak volumes.
I saw him play a series in San Francisco in August of 1990. He hit two home runs off of Mike LaCross in the third game.
I loved him as a player. I'm sure he is enjoying retirement.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15292480235336096636noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4225973709205976903.post-78825849279548192682012-03-20T01:54:29.113-04:002012-03-20T01:54:29.113-04:00I love this article! I always admired the way McReynolds didn't run his mouth off but let his play speak for itself. To this day, the #22 is my favorite number.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4225973709205976903.post-29004718471373684572011-05-22T00:34:39.635-04:002011-05-22T00:34:39.635-04:00McReynolds was a solid player. Yes, he tailed off rather quickly at the end, but was fairly reliable throughout his career. He was a smart (not the fastest) baserunner and a great defensive player. He should have won the MVP award in 1988. He was quiet and kept to himself - in this day in age - perhaps we need more professional athletes like him.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4225973709205976903.post-83953091084124206612011-05-10T14:28:38.320-04:002011-05-10T14:28:38.320-04:00Big Mac's personality certainly didn't fit...Big Mac's personality certainly didn't fit that group of guys, but better yet, he let his play do the talking.Richhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12702222014060108741noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4225973709205976903.post-69586574210401688972011-01-25T17:53:08.167-05:002011-01-25T17:53:08.167-05:00Big Mac always had his heart set on the outdoors a...Big Mac always had his heart set on the outdoors and duck hunting. It just happened that he ended up being really good at baseball which prevented him from going into duck hunting sooner. A duck hunting one, nonetheless.Juliehttp://www.chicagometsfan.comnoreply@blogger.com
